I am not the typical Black Friday shopper. Ya’ll know that.
For the last five years at least, I haven’t spent a dollar in a national chain
store during the weekend after Thanksgiving. This year was no different.
I decorated the Christmas tree and put up some decorations
around the house (photos to come later!).
I also scored on two old solid wood doors at a local antique
shop. These doors will eventually become a new headboard for our
bed. I’m thinking something like this…
Or this…
Regardless of what I decide to do, I need to strip the paint
from the doors, sand them down, and repaint them.
I also scored on a fireplace front.
Except, we don’t have a fireplace. But that’s ok, because
I’m going to create a faux fireplace in our dining room. I hope to make it look
like this…
Over Thanksgiving weekend John and I also did respite care
for a local foster family. Respite care is basically babysitting for foster
families. Foster children can’t just have any babysitter – the caregiver has to
be a licensed foster parent. While John and I are looking to adopt an infant
from foster care, we realize that is highly unlikely because foster care
infants are rare. We are exploring other options, but in the mean time we do
respite care a few times a year for local foster families. The holiday season
is usually the busiest.
We spent about 2 days with a little guy that was 8 weeks
old! It’s been a long time since I’ve cared for a tiny baby. I babysat infants
a lot in high school and was a nanny in college, so caring for this little dude
was like riding a bike.
That's about it, guys.
Over and out.
You know your projects stand out of the herd. There is something special about them. It seems to me all of them are really brilliant!
