Purex Powershot Isn't Worth the Money.

The Purex brand provided me with a sample of Purex PowerShot detergent in exchange for a product review. However, all the opinions expressed here are my own.

Hi friends! I have a few words to share with you about a new Purex product called PowerShot. I am sharing these words as part of a sponsored review, and my main goal is to save you some money.

Don't buy this stuff.

Here's the premise of Purex PowerShot: Just flip open the cap and turn the bottle upside down. The special cap measures the exact dose of detergent for you. Then, when you flip the bottle right side up, there is another dose ready for the next time.

One of the Purex PowerShot tag lines is, "No Measuring. No Guesswork. No Mess."

Except that's not true at all.

Here's the problem: I flipped open the cap, ready to wash a load of towels, and the laundry detergent sprayed and dribbled all over, leaving a huge mess on the floor of my hard-to-clean laundry closet.

I do understand the auto-dosing technology, and how it can be a nice convenience for the family who does a lot of laundry, or those who are pressed for time. In fact, I see it being more cost effective for people who don't have the self-control to measure out a proper dose of laundry soap using the lines on the inside of the cap. (Errr, that would be me…)

My beef is that if this is supposed to be a 'no mess' or 'no spill' product, then why do I have Purex PowerShot soap all over my hands and floor?

No bueno.

But there is a silver lining. I don't particularly like strongly scented laundry soaps. It just so happens that this brand of Purex PowerShot has a stronger scent than the Natural Elements brand. Instead of giving away the three free bottle vouchers to you guys (because I cannot possibly give this product a glowing endorsement), I am going to use the vouchers for three free bottles and deliver them to the Cedar Valley Humane Society

The Humane Society cares for hundreds of animals a year, and is a great resource for our community. They are always in need of cleaning supplies and laundry soap to wash the kennel bedding. I know because I was a volunteer there for years.

They'll appreciate the soap, and I can have a clean conscience knowing I didn't encourage you to purchase a product that did not have my full endorsement.

You're welcome?…

  1. Thanks for such an honest review! I usually just eyeball laundry detergent. I use far less than what's recommended. So far no one's complained about us smelling. . . ;) Really cool you are donating to the Humane Society.
