Great River Maple: An Iowa Maple Syrup Producer You Need to Try #2weeksunprocessed

It's almost been a full week since we decided to go unprocessed for two weeks. Yep, we're eating no commercially processed foods for 14 days. (Although I did slip up and buy some peanut M&M's a few days ago…) After only 6 days I feel like my digestive system is ironing itself out, and I definitely am less bloated that I was before the challenge. Also, I've lost 4 pounds. I know, right?!

You'll remember that I shared a bit about a local Iowa flour mill a few days ago, and I am so impressed with how excited you guys were on Facebook to hear about Early Morning Harvest. Ben from New Pioneer Food Co-op graciously supplied me with another Iowa treat: 100% pure maple syrup.

Is maple syrup processed? Technically, I suppose so. But in these cases I tend to look at the ingredients and the process used to create the product. When it comes to Great River Maple, based out of Garnavillo, Iowa, I think their products are definitely on the 'unprocessed and safe to eat' list.

If you've never had pure maple syrup, you haven't lived. The good stuff doesn't even compare to the brown maple-flavored high fructose corn syrup in the tall plastic bottle. While pure maple syrup might cost more (like, a few bucks), you'll find that you actually use less. Weird, I know. Just trust me.

The next time I head to New Pi for groceries, I want to try Great River Maple's maple cream. It looks so delicious, and I think I might try to make a spread or dip of some sort with it.

Visit Great River Maple to learn more about their products, and head over to New Pi Eats to read more about the story behind the syrup. If you want to buy their products, go here to see where you can buy. They even have Maple Fest coming up at the end of March, where they showcase their products, have a pancake breakfast, and more. John and I will definitely be in attendance.

Lastly, if you're from Eastern Iowa (or know someone who is) you should enter our giveaway for a $25 New Pioneer Co-op gift card and reusable chico shopping bag. You can use that gift card to buy some Iowa sweetness - -
