Essential Oils Series: Emotional Balance

Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor. In fact, I have no medical experience whatsoever. That's why you shouldn't take any of my words on essential oils as medical advice. I'm simply sharing my experiences with essential oils and how we use them for our own health and in our home. Please use good judgement and seek medical advice from a professional for any ailment.

Thanks for following along on our Essential Oils series. If you want to read the other posts in the series, here are the links:

What Oils Are & How to Use Them
Calming, Soothing Blends
Healthy Skin

I've already shared the oils that I use for calming my anxious mind, but today I want to be a little more broad and share some of the oils we have found helpful for emotional balance. To make it easier, I'll split this post into oils we like best for three different reasons: Stress Relief, Uplifting, Mental Focus.

Stress Relief Oils

Stress Relief

This is a blend by Young Living, and it's an essential tool in my teacher bag. I use this a few times a week when I am feeling tense. I just roll it on my wrists and the back of my neck. It is the one oil that I carry with me during my work day, although I do keep a Tranquil roll on in my car (I know, it's a terrible place to keep oils. Shoot me.)

Lime and Sweet Orange

These two together are a power-punch for soothing my mind. I apply them neat, topically or diffuse them in the air. Maybe, if I'm feeling fancy, I'll add a little bergamot or ylang ylang for extra relaxation.

Cinnamon Bark and Sweet Orange

This time of year, I love diffusing a little cinnamon and citrus-y sweet orange. It's a nice holiday scent and very comforting at the end of a long day.

Uplifting Oils

Joy

This is another blend by Young Living that is great for women to wear as perfume. Frankly, this isn't my favorite smelling blend, but it does energize and focus me for a bit. My sister, according to her recent Facebook post, really likes diffusing this oil as well.

Elemi

This oil is one of my new favorites. Like some of the oils I use when I'm feeling stressed, this one tends to ground and balance my emotions. Most of the time it is silly worrisome thoughts on my mind, and a few drops of elemi with some sweet almond carrier oil rubbed over my skin is all I need to lift my spirits and get down to business.

Mental Focus Oils

Peppermint

Great for mid-afternoon tension and stress, as well as a focusing mechanism, this is one of my absolute favorite oils. I like diffusing peppermint with other citrus oils to take the 'bite' out of the strong peppermint smell. My favorite combo with peppermint is adding a drop or two of lemon. (Thanks Courtney for the tip on that one!)

Rosemary

Ok, this bad boy is fresh and jolts me back into focus. If I am working on the blog or a project mid-afternoon, this is an oil that I will diffuse (sometimes with ginger or another citrus oil to take the edge off) for mental clarity. Side note: Sometimes do you find that oils don't necessarily smell like the plant they come from? Me too. Rosemary is not that oil. This one smells just like the rosemary plant. And I love it. The end.

Clarity

This blend is brand new to my collection, and I was smitten from the start. So far I've only diffused this Young Living blend on a Saturday morning (while I was addressing a bajillion holiday cards…) and it gave me the pep in my step that I needed to focus. Remember when I said Stress Relief is the only oil I carry in my teacher bag? I think this will be my second addition, friends.

  2. Thank you for this post and great stress relieving tips! I’m new to the oils but I do love the deep relief roll-on and use it a lot. Peace & Calming is one of my favorite oils. I also find that I become more relaxed during the evenings and am more easily able to let the stresses of the day go.
