Spiced Rum Grilled Ribeyes & Smashed Garden Taters {Caribbean-Inspired Cooking - Day 3}

Welcome to Day 3 of our week of Caribbean-inspired cooking! We were lucky enough to partner with Caribbean Trading Company, and were able to try several of their popular seasonings and sauces. Today, it's a juicy ribeye steak, seasoned with Spiced Rum Grill Seasoning. Plus some buttered, smashed taters and a side salad from the garden.

This meal proves exactly why it's a great idea to have some pre-made seasonings on hand when you're in a pinch to whip up a weeknight meal. Whether those seasoning blends are store-bought or homemade, they can be a lifesaver when you want to add flavor to your dinner STAT.

The night before, I simply grabbed a package of ribeye steaks out of our deep freeze and let them thaw in the fridge overnight. The next day at dinnertime, I asked John to start the grill while I rubbed down these steaks with Spiced Rum Grill Seasoning.

Give your meat a generous rub down, folks. Don't be shy.

I halved some of my small taters from the garden and set them to boil down, and tossed together a salad using greens and veggies from the garden. I crunched up a few ramen noodles and added a mandarin orange to give it an Asian twist.

John cooked the steaks to medium-well (I get a little queasy when I see blood on my plate), and within 40 minutes (from start to finish!) we had a quintessential Midwesterner dinner on the table. The Spicy Rum Grill Seasoning was a great accompaniment to these juicy ribeyes - the flavor was slightly sweet (making it great for chicken, pork, or fish!) but with a little peppery spice.

  1. I have never had Caribbean food before. Curious to work with the different kind of spices! Would the rum spice rub work good on chicken?
