Friends, I am here to tell you that it IS possible to travel on a shoestring budget. John and I do it all the time. Do you remember when I broke down our camping expenses for you, and figured that we had over 40 days of vacation for only a few thousand dollars? FORTY DAYS OF VACATION, PEOPLE!
Later this month when John and I head to Mexico, we won't have the benefit of a stocked camper to reduce our travel expenses. We'll be heading out on a plane and staying at an all-inclusive resort. I am worried that the actual process to get us to and from our destination will be the big money-suck.
To prevent impulse purchases while traveling, here are some essentials that we'll be packing with us:
- You see a reusable water bottle, which can easily be filled at the airport and taken on the plane after checking in.
- We're also bringing our own headphones to take advantage of the in-flight movie, or to listen to our own music.
- I am bringing a book of my own, so I don't feel compelled to spend high-dollar for an airport Glamour or Cosmopolitan.
- Lastly, and probably most importantly, we are bringing out own snacks. I got a bag of snacks for a Christmas gift exchange a few weeks ago, and will be saving some of those sweet treats for our trip. Although the Cinnabon kiosk in the airport will be calling my name, I think it's safe to say that saving the cash instead will be a better alternative.
