One Act: October

So, I'm volunteering on Tuesday nights, right? You remember: I'm serving meals to school-age children, who would otherwise not have supper that evening.

Well, there are about 5 of us who take turns on Tuesday's, since there are some Tuesday's when one of us can't be there, and we've all noticed that the "kitchen" we serve from is in pretty bad shape.

And I use the word "kitchen" very loosely, because the place we serve is actually the basement "community room" located in the mobile home park's office. There's a sink, a fridge, a stove, and a microwave. I suppose that's all we need, really - but it's nasty. As in, dirty. As in, none of the other groups that use this space clean up after themselves.

{Observation: I'm sure this is why community organizations get so frustrated with renting out their spaces to other groups - no one ever cares for your space as well as you do.}

One of the ladies I volunteer with came in 30 minutes early and SCRUBBED the kitchen from top to bottom. It was looking and smelling fantastic! In the process of cleaning, she noticed that we were really, really low on supplies needed to keep the kitchen in a clean, efficient manner.

So, I created a little tote of supplies from things I had at home and things from our camper {after we winterized it for the season} that we could keep in the kitchen area:

You'll see that I included more dish soap, paper towels, cleaning wipes, plastic bags, baggies, and hand sanitizer.

My hope is that other groups that use this community kitchen area will keep their hands off this tote of supplies, but I'm not counting on it. The whole point of gathering this tote of supplies is so we can ALL keep the community kitchen area of this mobile home park clean and ready to for each other to use.

What have you done this month for others? Have you volunteered for something? Helped out a neighbor or friend? Passed forward a good deed done for you?

Remember, November is a month for giving thanks for our blessings in life. Be a blessing for someone else. It rocks.
