John's Back to Work!

Our alarm clock went off a little earlier this morning, because John has hit the road for work again, but this time it's not too far from home. He's working at a fertilizer plant (I think...) about two hours away from our home, at their annual shut down for routine maintenance.

He got the call about this job on Friday morning, and had the weekend to make arrangements for lodging, as he started work today.

What's nice about this particular job is that it's a reasonable distance from our home. This means I can substitute teach about 2-3 days a week, and then go visit him for a long 'weekend'. It also means that John can come home for special events and family gatherings. Woot!

Also, he's working across the Mississippi River in Illinois in the Galena area, which is an amazing place to be in the fall. The leaves are changing, the weather is crisp, there are orchards to visit and trails to hike.

None of which John will be doing, since he's working seven days a week, 12-hours a day. But I'll be a "river rat" and a "leafer" for a few weeks. No problem. Especially because John intends to stay in our fifth-wheel trailer for this job, since there is not a per diem allowance for housing and food. Like in Arkansas, this will save John a considerable amount of money, and it will be amazing camping in the fall weather.

Clearly, I'm looking forward to it.

He anticipates working this job until the middle of November, then taking a few weeks off before heading to the next job, which is already lined up.

I'm not divulging the location of his next job just yet; wouldn't want to jinx it. But let's just say that the location is fairly familiar and the weather will be a whole lot warmer than Iowa in the wintertime.
