Ced Rel Dip and the family recipe book.


Looks like cottage cheese, doesn't it? It's not, though. It's an amazing, use-a-cracker-use-a-chip-use-a-spoon dip that has won my heart.


In fact, I've had this recipe in my possession for about three years, but hadn't tried it until recently when I was cleaning out my cookbook cupboard and started leafing through my Recipe Keeper cookbook.


This cookbook was a gift from my mom a while ago, and I love it. I don't use it as often as I should though. What I like most about this book is that in between sections there are envelopes to store recipe cards.

Some of you might recall a pretty big occasion three years ago on December 1st.

No?

John and I were married.

Jeesh.

For my bridal shower, my super creative Aunt Julie mailed a recipe card with each invitation. Each guest was to bring a favorite recipe to the shower written on the card.

I can't even tell you how many amazing recipes I recieved from my family and friends.


But I haven't used many of them.

I'm a foodie. I love watching cooking shows, and I love surfing the web for new recipes. The other day I was cooking dinner and was stressin' about something not turning out correctly, and John (who often sits at our island and chats with me to keep me company while I cook) asked why I just didn't make "good" meals.

Ahem. Good meals? WTF is that supposed to mean?

After he had a moment to collect himself, he said, "You know, things like you mom makes. Or stuff my mom made. Your aunts are all good cooks. Look at the spreads they put on during holidays."

He's right.

The women in my family and the friends I have are damn good cooks. And they don't get all fancy-schmancy. They just cook.

So I'm challenging myself to make a meal from the Recipe Keeper at least twice a month. I'm going to try each and every recipe that was shared with me on my bridal shower.

Also in the Recipe Keeper are spaces to write in your favorite recipes. When my mom got me this book, she wrote in several family recipes as well. You guessed it. I'm gonna try those, too.


That Ced Rel Dip I started writing about. Well, that was Recipe Keeper #1. Courtesy of college friend Kristina. I should also let you know that Kristina is a professional body builder, so if she eats Ced Rel Dip, I can eat Ced Rel Dip.

What's Recipe Keeper #2?

  1. I used to have this recipe years ago and lost it. I wanted to make it to take to Christmas this year - so excited to find it! We always mixed it up in the blender to make it a little less chunky, but the same ingredients.
