Establishing Traditions in a Our Young Marriage.

There are lots of things I love about being married. Lots, I tell ya!

One of them is that we get to create traditions to continue for the rest of our lives together. That's a pretty cool though, if you ask me. We, in fact, already have a few traditions we've established in our brief 1 3/4 years of marriage. Here are a few:
  1. We always watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation on Christmas Eve while eating homemade soup and homemade bread. We also open our gifts from each other on Christmas Eve.
  2. During the first weekend in May we attend the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis, Tennessee. LOVE IT! This is one of my favorite traditions - and I usually get our 3-day passes for John's birthday so we can partake in all of the festival activities.
  3. We also have a fire in our front yard every Halloween. John lights up a fire, I bring the lawn chairs to the front yard and we munch on candy as we wait for trick-or-treaters. Our neighbors gave us the idea, and before we knew it, this year almost all of the houses on our street had a fire in their front yard! There was so much activity and excitement. Everyone was out-and-about waiting for the kiddos in costume. We don't have a lot of children in our neighborhood, so it was awesome seeing our older neighbors interacting with the chitluns.

I LOVE this fire chimney - it is so warm and keeps the smoke out of your eyes!
